Bernard S. Bretherick

Bernard Samuel Bretherick, 83, of Palmyra, PA and Wake Forest, NC, passed away with family by his side on Monday, April 3, 2017.  He was born Sunday, February 18, 1934 in Colwyn, PA to the late James and Helen (Lewis) Bretherick.  He was predeceased by his loving wife Nancy (Allwein) Bretherick. 

He is survived by a son, Douglas W. Bretherick and wife Julie; a daughter-in-law Linda DeTurk; 3 grandchildren, Samuel Douglas Bretherick, Joseph W. DeTurk, and Jennifer M. Covington and husband Christopher; a great-granddaughter, Violet Wike; and a brother “Sonny” Louden Bretherick and wife Esther.  He was predeceased by a son, Glenn G. DeTurk; and 6 siblings. 

He proudly served in the United States Army.  He was stationed in Germany following the Korean War.  Bernard took an early retirement from Nationwide Insurance to travel with his wife Nancy to all 48 continental states as well as to Alaska.  Following their travels they were snowbirds in Bradenton, FL.  He was a contributor of Hospice of Lebanon County and the Palmyra Playground Association.  In the last several years Bernard’s pride and joy was watching his grandson Samuel play travel baseball. 

Family and friends are invited for viewing on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 1-2:30 PM at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra 17078.    Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 867, Hershey 17033 or American Heart Association, PO Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693.
