Boyd A. Firestone

Boyd A. Firestone, born May 4, 1934, passed from his earthly life into the loving arms of his savior on Monday, June 19, 2017, at the MS Hershey Medical Center of complications following surgery the prior week.  Boyd was a native of Palmyra, educated in the Palmyra school system and proudly represented the school in football, basketball and baseball until his graduation in 1952.  He spent his adult career at his beloved Valley Trust Bank and continued his employment through several mergers until his retirement in 1990.  Boyd served in the US Army as an MP in the mid- 50’s.

Boyd is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Lena (Meyerhoffer) Firestone and is survived by his brother, Donald of Palmyra, and sister Karen Elder of Tega Cay, SC.  He leaves behind his best friend and wife of sixty-two years, Nancy (nee) Poorman, his caring children Steve and wife Rebecca, Marcy Koman and husband Dave, and Brenda Schmidt and husband Bob.  The pride of his later years were his grandchildren Andrew (Kelly) Koman, Jessica Firestone Hubacher (Brian), Scott (Brooke) Koman, Courtney Andrews, and step-grandson who joined our family as a young man, Bob Schmidt Jr.

Boyd was a man of honor who loved helping people in many venues.  He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and served the church in numerous areas over the past sixty-two years, a former member and past president of the Palmyra Lions Club, the Palmyra Optimist Club, the Palmyra Education Assn, and the North Londonderry Twp Sewer Authority.  Boyd was a long time member of the former Spring Creek Lodge, Hershey, PA and other Masonic organizations.  Professionally, he served as president of several Lebanon County banking groups.

Time on the golf course was one of his delights.  Many vacation trips with Nancy and friends were a priority after retirement.  He tremendously enjoyed his male only golf trips and weekly local outings.  Especially important was his love of taking care of his property.  His two young neighbor buddies, Darin and Josh, spent many hours in his company and provided much enjoyment for him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11 AM at Trinity UCC, 40 W.
