Clarence “Boop” Eugene Starner, 87, of Lebanon, died Saturday, October 8, 2016 at The Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon. He was born Monday, May 6, 1929 in Indiantown Gap to the late Lester and Minnie (Reed) Starner. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Jo (Herr) Starner.
He served as SFC in the US Army during the Korean War, combat engineers unit, earning 2 Bronze Stars. He grew up on a farm and began working for the Hershey Chocolate Company at the age of 14, and met Milton S. Hershey. He was a self-employed contractor building over 400 homes in Lebanon, Dauphin and York Counties. He built, owned, and operated the Cadillac Motel in Palmyra for 32 years and owned Nancy Lou Barbeque for 8 years. He attended Salem Walmers Union Church.
He was a member of Brownstone Lodge #666, F.&A.M. and the Harrisburg Zembo Temple Shrine for over 50 years. He was a member of Tall Cedars of Quitaphilla Forest #25, Past Grand Tall Cedar, Quittie Woods Charter member and Past President, Royal Order of Jesters Allentown Court 128, Kachina Billiken Klub, and Past President of Lebanon County Shrine Club.
He was a member of the Antique Automotive Club of America, Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, Charter member of Antique Classic Car Unit where he served at Past President 1985, Chairman of Hershey Fall Meet 1987, and Region President in 1988. He was a Lifetime member of American Legion Post #72 and a member of Turkey Buzzards of Central PA Roost 1. His passion for NASCAR dated back to racing on the sand in Daytona, and enjoyed buying and restoring old cars. He raised many German Shepherds.
He is survived by a son, Clarence “Chuck” E. Starner, II of Annville; three daughters, Stephanie L. Laudermilch and husband Dennis of Lebanon, Suzanne E. Frazier and husband Edward of Palmyra, and Shirley A. Speraw and husband Robert of Palmyra; twelve grandchildren, Clarence III "Kerry", Travis, and Jordan Starner, Brandon and Brett Laudermilch, Megan and Ian Frazier, Russell III, Ryan, and Zachary Hollenbach, Mindy and Brandon Speraw; six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond, Paul and John Starner; a daughter in law, Barbara Starner; a great grandson, Rowan Lee Laudermilch.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14th at 11 AM at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 with Pastor Robert W. Sim officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Hershey Cemetery, Hershey. Family and friends are invited for viewing at the funeral home on Thursday, October 13th from 6 to 8 PM with Masonic Services by Hershey Brownstone Lodge, #666 at 6:15 PM, and from 10 AM until time of the service on Friday.
