Dorothy M. (Spangler) Dissinger

Dorothy Mae (Spangler) Dissinger, 101, of Campbelltown, passed away peacefully in her home with family by her side on Monday, October 26, 2015.  She was born Tuesday, September 22, 1914 in South Annville Township to the late Abner Cleveland and Beulah Mae (Jones) Spangler.  She was predeceased by her loving husband Marlin Woodrow Dissinger in 1979.

Dorothy was a graduate of Hershey High School and Beckley College.  She worked in several departments for Hershey and reported directly to Milton S. Hershey when she was in the accounting department.  Dorothy and her husband Marlin owned and operated Dissinger’s General Store.  She eventually retired from the Campbelltown Post Office where she served as Post Mistress for many years.  She was an avid bowler competing locally, regionally, and nationally.  She was a member of many Bowling Associations and specifically the American Bowling Congress.  She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 6417 serving as past president, NARFE, Ladies’ Auxiliary of Campbelltown Volunteer Fire Company, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.  She enjoyed collecting family heirlooms and loved attending auctions in pursuit of antiques.  Most importantly she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. 

She is survived by 2 daughters, Sandra Nelson and Vicki Zimmerman and son-in-law Jim Zimmerman; 4 grandchildren, Jonathon Howland and wife Robin, Michelle Bradley, Rebecca McDevitt and husband Matthew, and Lori Rios and companion Jack Alt; 13 grandchildren, Joshua, Hannah, Keegan, and Callie, McDevitt, Andrew, Lila, Jack, Mary Page, Lydia, and Anne Bradley, Carissa Rios, and Katy and Kylie Howland; a brother, Richard Spangler and wife Dawn; and a sister-in-law, Trudy Spangler.  She was predeceased by 3 siblings, Pauline Fox, Earl Spangler, and Joan Liggett. 

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 2 PM at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra 17078 with Rev. Samuel Fry officiating.  Family and friends are invited for viewing from 1 PM until time of the service.  Burial will follow the service in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
