Duane Sterling Gable, 85, of Palmyra, PA, passed away at Londonderry Village on Thursday, March 15, 2018, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Stephen H. and Margaret (Wright St Clair) Gable. He was married to Florence A. (Dunbar), the love of his life for 59 years, who passed in 2011.
Duane worked at the Ingersoll-Rand in Athens, PA as a tool designer, for over 40 years. Over his career he developed 9 tool patents and attended the Indianapolis 500 to observe his impact power wrench change tires in the pits. He was a proud Navy veteran serving as a Seabee with tours in Guantanamo Bay Cuba and French Morocco from 1951 to1957. A 32nd degree Mason, Duane was Past Master of the Rural Amity Lodge No. 70, F&AM. One of his passions was building and flying large radio-controlled airplanes. In the summer, Duane was always outside, pruning the grape vines, running the tractor, tending the bee hives, and planting more trees. He was known for his strong handshake and ready smile.
Above all, Duane loved his family. He is survived by three children: Alan Scott Gable and wife Eileen D. of Levittown, PA, Deborah L. Trickett and husband Jeffery A. of Reinholds, PA, Terri G. Lloyd and her husband Michael E. of Elizabethtown, PA; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and brothers Charles of Waverly, NY, of Philip of Dundee, NY.
A memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine Street, Palmyra, PA, 17078. Visitation will be from 1-2pm prior to the service beginning at 2pm. Final resting place will be the Gable Homestead, Ulster, PA
