Elizabeth Upchurch Putt

Homemaker

Elizabeth Upchurch Putt, 89, formerly of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2015 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.  She was born Wednesday, July 7, 1926 in Henderson, North Carolina to the late George and Lugenia (Matthews) Upchurch.

During World War II, she served as a USO hostess where she met Lloyd I. Putt, her husband of 69 years.

Elizabeth was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Palmyra, where she belonged to the Crafty Circle, served as a choir mother and was a member of the prayer chain for many years.

She was active in the Palmyra Jr. Woman’s Club and a member of the Lebanon Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf.  Earlier she worked for the State of Pennsylvania and later in the office of her husband’s business.

Most important to her were her role as a wife, and mother to her daughter, Lugenia A. Rozman and husband Frank, of Lititz and son, Jeffrey L. Putt and wife Nicole, of Strasburg.  In addition, she is survived by three grandchildren: Beth L. Cummings and husband Chris, of Elizabethtown, Adrienne N. Weiler and husband Lance, of Willow Street, and Andrew J. Putt and fiancé Tonya Klinger, of Harrisburg; two great grandchildren, Jack and Avary Weiler of Willow Street.  She is also survived by a sister, Ann Allen of Warrenton, NC; two half-sisters, Drucilla Abbott of Henderson, NC and Judy Kalmus of Fort Walton Beach, FL; numerous nieces and nephews as well as Elizabeth’s extended family and caring friends.

Elizabeth was loved by everyone who was touched by her life.  Her most valuable possessions were her family and friends.  Many summer vacations were spent with family in Cape May, NJ.  She also enjoyed playing bridge with their couples bridge club as well as with other friends.  A true servant of her faith, she showed kindness, compassion and generously gave time and energy to everyone.  Her inner beauty showed through in all she did.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, October 9, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, 520 East Birch Street, Palmyra, PA  17078 with the Reverend Dr. David P. Harris officiating.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family at the church from 10:30 AM until the time of the service on Friday.  Private burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA  17078.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in Elizabeth’s Memory to the First United Methodist Church at the above listed address or to Masonic Village Hospice, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA  17022.  Condolences and memories may be shared at www.rothermelfuneralhome.com
