Jose Cruz Obituary

Jose “Louie” Cruz

Jose Louis Cruz, 61, of Campbelltown, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at The Gardens of Campbelltown following a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born Tuesday, June 18, 1957 in Lancaster and was raised by his loving foster parents Ulysses and Florence Bell.  He was predeceased by his foster parents; his son, James Cruz; two foster bothers, Ed Bell husband of Karen, and Pete Bell husband of Tammy.

Louie attended Bishop McDevitt and worked in the transportation department at the Milton Hershey Schools.   He was a force to be reckoned with on the pool table, loved music and was the life of the party on the dance floor.  He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Campbelltown Post 831, Palmyra and Annville VFW, Union Hose Social Club, Annville, and the Hershey Italian Lodge.  Louie was full of life, greeted everyone with a smile, and lived a good life—he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by a brother, Jose Antonio Cruz and wife Julie of Tampa, FL; a step-son, Scott Persing of Middletown; two granddaughters, Monica and Ryah Cruz of Enola; 4 step grandchildren, Tyler Persing, Natalie Tucci, Indigo Persing and Owen Persing; foster brother, Uly Bell and his wife Louann; foster sisters, Peggy Bell and Michelle Bell; and many-many close friends who were also considered family.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 26th at 3:00 PM at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078.  Family and friends are invited for visitation from 2:00 PM until time of the service.  Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.  A period of fellowship and celebration will be held at the Campbelltown American Legion Post 831, 155 Palmyra Road, Palmyra following the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Cancer Institute, Penn State Development Office, 1249 Cocoa Avenue, Suite 115, Hershey, PA 17033.  In the words of Louie via one of his favorite bands, “Anywhere I may roam, where I lay my head is home.”
