Michael Andrew Mowery

Michael Andrew Mowery, 99, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center.  He was born Monday, January 17, 1916 in Shamokin to the late Harvey D. and Mary (Motto) Mowery.  He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Sophie (Kormancik) Mowery.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  Michael retired from Milton Hershey School where he worked in the maintenance department for 15 years.  Prior to his employment with Milton Hershey, Michael was employed at Olmstead Air Force Base as an Avionics and Aircraft Rebuilder.  He was a faithful member of Church of the Holy Spirit in Palmyra.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 72 Palmyra and was active in their War Memorial Association.  Michael enjoyed woodworking, bird watching, and working in his garden.  In his youth Michael was a champion roller skater, but most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. 

He is survived by a daughter, Sharon J. Correale; 2 granddaughters, Carla C. Irvin and husband Christopher and Nina M. Correale and fiancé Jason Bennett; and 2 great-grandsons, Zane M. and Everett A. Irvin.  He was predeceased by a grandson, Andrew John Correale; a brother, Ellis D. Mowery; and 2 sisters, Allwyn Paul and Eleanor Shmutzler. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 6th at 10 AM at Church of the Holy Spirit, 245 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 with Father James F. Podlesny as Celebrant. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 9 AM until time of the service.  Burial with full military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville at the convenience of the family.   Arrangements have been entrusted to Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra 17078. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to ­­­­St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
