Robert “Pete” Hevel

Robert “Pete” Hevel, 88, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully in his home with family by his side on Monday, May 9, 2016.  He was born Tuesday, December 6, 1927 in West Fairview to the late Charles and Mabel (Whye) Hevel.  He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary F. (Nork) Hevel.  

Pete retired from AMP where he worked in the packaging department for 41 years. He currently worked at the Giant Center bringing smiles to everyone’s faces.  Pete was a member of Church of the Holy Spirit and a former member of Holy Name of Jesus; he had been active in the Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus, and HNJ catering services.  A member of the PA Sports Hall of Fame, he was also involved in coaching youth sports.  Pete was a former Supervisor for West Hanover Township and a member of the Historical Society.  Most importantly he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who will be greatly missed.  

He is survived by 5 children, David Hevel and wife Barbara, Tracy Forray and husband Anthony, Peter Hevel, Matthew Hevel and wife Verlee, and Elizabeth Hensil and husband Kevin; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 2 siblings, Helen Tilson and Charles Hevel.  He was predeceased by a grandson, Brendan Hevel; and 4 siblings, Harold Hevel, Katherine Shumaker, Margaret Krupilis, and Grace Arndt.  

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 13, 2016 at 11 AM at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 245 W. Pine St., Palmyra 17078. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 9 AM until time of the service.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg 17110.
