Robert E. Byrne

Robert Eugene Byrne, 82, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Palmyra, passed away with family by his side on Saturday, February 4, 2017.  He was born Monday, October 29, 1934 in Wheeling, WV to the late John J. and Helen Margaret (McGonigal) Byrne.  He was predeceased by his loving wife Beverly J. (Young) Byrne.  

Robert proudly served in United States Army during the Korean War.  He retired from Yorkville Steel Mill after 40 years of faithful service.  After retirement he worked in Security at Hershey Park.  Robert formerly attended Salem United Church of Christ.  He was an avid sports fan and cheered on the Pittsburgh Steelers and the West Virginia Mountaineers.  He enjoyed watching Western movies and the stock ticker.  Most importantly he was a devoted caretaker and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. 

He is survived by a daughter, Adrienne L. Byrne; a son, Timothy B. Byrne and wife Cheryl; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Perez, Jessica Fuchs, Morgan and Madison Lutz, Andrew and Connor Byrne, and Justin and Jordan Hoachlander; 7 great-grandchildren, Ramses Perez, Jr., Aralyn and Sadi Byrne, Dahlya Lutz, Quinn Fuchs, and Evelyn and Elise Hoachlander; and a sister, Mary Lou Gordon.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Christine F. Linamen; and 2 siblings, Helen Margaret Byrne and Richard Byrne.  

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 11 AM at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra 17078 with Rev. Julia A. Beall officiating.  Family and friends are invited for viewing from 10 AM until time of the service.  Burial will follow the service in the Salem UCC Cemetery, Campbelltown.  

In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 867, Hershey 17033.
