Robert H. Gingrich, Sr.

Robert Huntzinger Gingrich, Sr., 86, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, September 5, 2016 in Columbia Cottage, Palmyra.  He was born Wednesday, April 16, 1930 in Palmyra to the late Russell L. and Pearl C. (Huntzinger) Gingrich.  He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth (Funck) Gingrich. 

Robert proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.  He was a graduate of Lebanon Valley College, and pursued a teaching career for 32 years at Palmyra High School teaching social studies, economics, and drivers education.  After retiring, he worked at Redner’s Warehouse Market for over 10 years.  Robert was a member of Gravel Hill United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed playing sports, especially softball, racquetball, hockey, and tennis.  Most importantly he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. 

He is survived by a son, James F. Gingrich; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Gingrich; 4 grandchildren, Col. Jason Gingrich and wife Stacey of Georgia, Bryant Gingrich and wife Chasity of Oklahoma, Jonathan Gingrich and wife Katie of Ephrata, and Kelsey (Gingrich) Hunter and husband Drew of Oklahoma; 3 great-grandchildren, Jason, Jr., John, and Eliana Gingrich; and 4 siblings, John Gingrich and wife Sonni, Betty Rauch, Mary Lou Allmon, and Ann Shriver.  He was predeceased by a son, Robert H. Gingrich, Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Gingrich; and 3 siblings, Jean Bombgardner, Russell Gingrich, Jr., and Jack Gingrich. 

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 15th at 10 AM at Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, 131 Gravel Hill Rd., Palmyra 17078 with Rev. Douglas Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra 17078. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Lebanon Valley Youth for Christ, 378 N. 10th St., Lebanon 17046, or the American Cancer Society, PO Box 867, Hershey 17033, or the Lebanon Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 5, Lebanon 17042.
