Rev. Emory Billingsley Obituary

Rev. Emory Beggs Billingsley, 91, of Elizabethtown, passed away on March 29, 2024. He was born April 9, 1932, in Franklin, PA, to the late Samuel Emory and Grace M. (Beggs) Billingsley.

Emory served his country, after graduating from high school, with honor during the Korean War, stationed in both the US and Germany with the 28th division of the Pennsylvania National Guard, and was awarded the Army of Occupation of Germany Medal. Emory married in 1951 his beloved Kathaleen Ankeny whom he had met at church camp when they were both 14 years old. They shared 72 wonderful years of marriage. 
Emory graduated from Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, PA, in 1960 with a BS in Education. He then pursued further studies at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, graduating in 1964 with a Masters of Divinity degree. Emory dedicated 43 years of his life to the United Methodist Conference of Western PA, retiring as a respected member. Beyond his professional endeavors, Emory was deeply involved in his community. He served as a firefighter and chaplain from 1964 to 1972. He was known for his compassionate nature, volunteering at various hospice organizations and offering his services as a chaplain. Emory held numerous leadership positions within the church and was actively engaged in community service. He was also a dedicated Mason for fifty years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed travel, outdoor activities, hunting, and cherished moments with his family. He was known for his gentlemanly demeanor and his fun-loving sense of humor.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathaleen Billingsley; his son, Duane Billingsley, and wife Sharon; his daughter, Bonita Motsay; grandchildren, Christine, Brett, Amanda, and Amber; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Ronald Billingsley, and his brother, Warren Billingsley.

Family and friends are invited to honor Emory's life at a funeral service on Saturday, April 6th, with visitation stating at 10:00 am  followed by an 11:00 am service in the Masonic Village Sell Chapel at 1 Masonic Village Elizabethtown, PA. Another service will be held on the same day with visitation starting at 2:00 pm followed by a 3:00 pm service at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church located at 398 N Locust St. Elizabethtown, PA
