Jay Elwood Spahr

September 17, 1947 ~ October 26, 2017 (age 70) 70 Years Old

Jay Elwood Spahr, 70, of Newville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at home with his loving family by his side following a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born Wednesday, September 17, 1947 in Carlisle to the late Charles H. and Edith E. (Hoover) Spahr.  He is survived by his loving wife Shirley Ann (Enyeart) Spahr with whom he would have celebrated 47 years of marriage on Monday, October 30th.

He was the owner-operator of Jay Spahr Plumbing & Heating, known throughout the community as a skilled craftsman who used his many talents to enrich the lives of others.  He attended LP Gas and Agway Petroleum Schools, and was a member of the American Legion Post #421 of Newville and Post #223 of Shippensburg, Moose Lodge of Carlisle, VFW Post #6070 of Newville, Eagles of Carlisle, The Circle of Carlisle, Minnequa Social Club of Shippensburg, Friendship Hose Company No. 1, and life member of Big Spring Fish and Game.  Jay was full of life, love and happiness and was a friend to all who knew him.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed. 

He is survived by three daughters, Laurie Ann (Spahr) Delaney and husband Richard of CA, Toni Linn (Enyeart) Szczypta and husband John of Newville, Michelle Lee (Enyeart) Weyand and partner Eric Jenkins of Highspire; a son, Michael Eugene Spahr and wife Brandi (Shull) Spahr; five grandchildren, Amanda Weyand, Jarren Enyeart, Brittnie Enyeart, Pierson Szczypta, and Huntier Szczypta; a brother, Ronnie Spahr of Newville; a sister, Carol Cox and husband Floyd of Newville.  He was predeceased by a grandson, Joshua Weyand.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 31st at Noon at Newville First Church of God, 475 Shippensburg Road, Newville, PA 17241 with Pastor Wayne Good officiating.  Burial will follow in Newville Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited for viewing from 9 AM until time of the service at the church.  Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 has been entrusted with the arrangements.
