Joyce (Shay) Walmer

Joyce (Shay) Walmer, 91, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, December 5, 2017.  She was born on Thursday, April 15, 1926 in Lemoyne to the late William E. and Gretna (Negley) Shay.  She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years Robert E. Walmer.

Joyce was a 1945 graduate of Cornwall High School.  She retired from the Pennsylvania State Police where she was supervisor in the Bureau of Technical Services.  She was a faithful member of Palm Lutheran Church and had a servant’s heart spending time volunteering for the Palmyra Ambulance Association as an EMT and at SpangCrest Nursing Home.  She was a member of the Palmyra Women’s Club.  Most importantly she was a loving wife, mother, and sister. 

In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Donna Blouch and husband Timothy; and 4 siblings.  She was predeceased by 10 siblings. 

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 12:30 PM at Palm Lutheran Church, 11 W. Cherry St., Palmyra 17078 with Reverend Kate Warn officiating.  Family and friends are invited for viewing from 11:30 AM until time of the service.  Burial will follow the services in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra 17078.    

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Greater Pennsylvania Chapter Alzheimer’s Association, 2595 Interstate Dr., Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
