Vernon C. Lyter, Jr., of Hummelstown, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 26, 2019. Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Vernon, Sr., and Florence (Shipe) Lyter. He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 25 years, Maria T. (Gomez) Lyter.
Vernon worked at Lower Dauphin School District as a physics, chemistry, and math teacher. In his free time, he enjoyed painting toy soldiers, which he has an extensive collection of. He also liked nature, reading and listening to audio books, and watching Penn State and Eagles football games. He loved going on vacation, especially to the beach.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his cousin, Tim Shipe of Iowa, brother-in-law John Terhune and wife Zeny of Hershey, nephew Michael Terhune and wife Rebecca of Baltimore, and Carmela and family from S.C, and of course, his beloved cat, Deanna. He was preceded in death by two cousins, Barb and Terry Shipe.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Shoops Cemetery, 4332 Lexington St., Harrisburg, PA 17109. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Palmyra, PA.
