Barry Powell Obituary

Barry Lee Powell, 81, of Palmyra, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 11, 2022 at his home.  He was born Thursday, July 10, 1941 in Hershey to the late David and Verna (Stauffer) Powell.  He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Donna (Mills) Powell. He is survived by a daughter, Andrea Wolf, husband of Brian of Lititz; a son, Bradley Powell and wife Melanie of Red Lion; two grandsons, Parker and Graham Wolf.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Robin Snyder.

 

He graduated from Palmyra High School in 1959 where he was a decorated football player earning Big 33 honors and was co-captain of the baseball team and the football team.  He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and traveled around the world to places like Africa, New Zealand, Scotland, Uruguay, Costa Rica and the Western United States.  He was a member of Lebanon Rifle Club, Hummelstown Rifle Club, Quittapahilla Rod & Gun Club, Blue Ridge Rifle Club, AACA, PA Dutch Region of the AACA, and a Life Member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited.  He was a former member of Bass Woods Hunting Club.

 

Barry worked for many years at Fruehauf Corporation as production manager.  Later in life, he was an independent carpenter contractor. Barry was known for his strong larger than life personality, his uncanny ability to share a story and that special way to let you know exactly what he thought.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. 

 

 A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 18th at 11 AM at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078.  Family and friends are invited for visitation from 9 AM until time of the service.  Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.  Interment will be private.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made in his honor to the Quittapahilla Rod & Gun Club, Inc., 704 South Mount Pleasant Road, South Annville, PA 17042.  Memories and condolences may be shared at www.finkenbinderfamily.com.
