Carla Kay (Bassett) Janes, 61, of Flinton, PA, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at UPMC Altoona. She was the daughter of the late Virgil F. and Bertie L. (Wiley) Bassett. Carla was born on Wednesday, January 21, 1959, in Puerto Rico, and raised in Port Lavaca, Texas. She was married to David C. Janes on May 24, 1999.
She was a beloved mom, grandma, bonus mom/grandma, and friend to many. She fiercely loved her family and friends, often demonstrating her love through sage advice and counsel, words of encouragement, handmade quilts, care packages, homemade treats and home cooked meals.
Carla loved her Lord and Savior, and has served the Lord since she was a young girl, often burning the midnight oil contending in faith for those she loved.
She faithfully served the communities she was a part of in Texas, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota. She was active in teaching Sunday School, singing in choirs and special music in church, leading Girls in Action and Acteens. She was an advocate for domestic violence and the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation. She loved quilting, baking specialty cakes for weddings and birthdays, as well as being a consultant and making friends through Mary Kay and Pampered Chef.
In addition to her husband of over 21 years, she is survived by six children: Sarah H. Hoffman, of Harrisburg, Katie B. Schuster, married to Brandon, of Pittsburgh, Bridget A. Bentley, married to Matt, of Hickory Corners, MI, Matthew D. Janes, married to Lissa, of Harrisburg, Kathryn E. Kugler, married to Jason, of Annville, and Karen D. Stauffer, married to Brad, of Annville. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren: Kylie Sites, Karlie Kramer, Alex Schuster, AJ Schuster, Darius Schuster, Tyler Berg, married to Hailey, Emily Johns, engaged to Jenna, Sarah Calomeni, married to Ryan, Matthew Bentley II, Mwila Nonde, married to Priscilla, Noah Janes, Rebekah Janes, Connor Janes, Finn Janes, Collin Janes, Caitlin Nishikawa, Abigail Stauffer; one great grandson on the way; a sister, Lisa G. Leopold, married James, of Seguine, TX, as well as Carla’s extended family and caring friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sheila A. Webel.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 (in compliance with COVID-19 regulations) at the Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078, 717-838-9211, with Pastor Jason J. Seaman officiating. A viewing will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service on Tuesday. Private interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
