Clayton Benton Obituary

Clayton E. “Robin” Benton, 88, formerly of Middletown and Harrisburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at Colonial Park Care Center, Harrisburg.  Born Saturday, February 13, 1932, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, he was the son of the late Lloyd E. and Thelma E. (Ellis) Benton.

Clayton was a Veteran proudly serving with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. An amazing artist, Clayton spent time after his retirement from PennDot exhibiting his work and could often be seen doing pen and inks with a quill pen.  One of the founders of Pineford Community Players, Clayton was instrumental in the production of this small community theatre in Middletown.

He is survived by a sister, Rita Coyer, of Bellefontaine, OH, as well as two sisters-in-law, Joanne Benton, of Springfield Ohio (wife of deceased brother, Vernon) and Shirley Benton, of Freemont, Ohio (wife of deceased brother, Wilbur).  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews:  John Benton, of Chicago, Illinois, Steve Benton, Rick Benton, Susan Vanzand and Michelle Wheeler, of Springfield, Ohio, Mike Benton, of Freemont Ohio, Dan Benton of Cincinati, Ohio, Eddie McGee, Theresa Mee, of DeGraff, Ohio, and Joseph Benton of Lompac, CA .  Robin also leaves behind a host of caring friends.  In addition to his parents and brothers, Vernon and Wilbur, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Benton; a sister, Ellen (Benton) McGee; a niece, Mary Benton and a nephew Douglas McGee.

The family would like to thank the staff and administration at Colonial Park Care Center, Harrisburg, for the wonderful treatment they provided Clayton for the several years that he was in their care.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements have been entrusted with the Fager-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 208 North Union Street, Middletown, PA  17057, 717-944-7413.
