Elizabeth Annis Peck, aged 93, passed away on June 10, 2021, after a long, fascinating, fulfilling life in which she witnessed a vastly changing and much appreciated world.
A child of the Great Depression, Betty lived through World War II as a teenager. She met the love of her life, her husband Tom, while she was a Psychology major at Wellesley College, and he was pursuing the same degree at Princeton University. They married in 1949 and celebrated nearly 73 years together. His career took them to the Washington, DC suburbs, Viet Nam, and Singapore. Betty had three children in three different countries and endowed them all with her strong, independent spirit. She also taught English to Vietnamese adult students and wrote weekly letters home that are a cherished narrative of their years in Southeast Asia. Once they were able to settle stateside in suburban Maryland, Betty became a tax consultant. She continued to prepare taxes professionally for over 40 years, eventually becoming an Enrolled Agent with the IRS. Once Tom retired, they spent several years taking trips and cruises, some to international destinations and some to explore the United States, achieving one of Betty’s goals of visiting all 50 states. They created wonderful memories with their grandchildren, during their individual visits and various trips. Finally, they moved to Pennsylvania and discovered the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, where they enjoyed the community as well as the loving care provided there.
Betty is survived by her sister, Eleanor Cappon; her beloved husband, Tom Peck; two daughters, Barbara Henning, of Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Catherine (Robert) Hallin, of Damascus, Maryland; seven grandsons, Joshua (Kim) Henning, Justin (Chanie) Henning, Ryan (Ashleigh) Henning, Brandon Peck, Marshall (Katrina) Peck, Robert “RJ” (Jacklyn) Hallin, and Taylor Hallin; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Colton Henning, Olivia Henning, Madison Henning, Jackson Henning, Ella Henning, Grayson Henning, Henry Peck, Marshall Dylan Peck, Bodan Henning, Cavan Henning, Blaire Henning, Eva Hallin, and Adler Henning. She was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Annis; and her son, Robert (Susan) Peck.
A memorial celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a date to be determined, once her friends and loved ones are able to gather for the occasion.
