October 5, 1927 ~ November 21, 2020 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Fern Fisher Obituary

Fern Isley Fisher passed peacefully into the Lord’s embrace on November 21 at Community Care and Hospice in Mt. Joy, PA surrounded by her loving family.  She was 93 years old.  She  was pre-deceased by her husband of 66 years, John William Fisher, who pre-deceased her in 2012.

Born in Swepsonville North Carolina on October 5, 1927, she was one of three children of the late William and Cassie (Culbertson) Isley.  She graduated from  Alexander Wilson High School in Swepsonville in 1945.  On one fateful evening at the bowling alley where she worked she met her husband Bill Fisher.  They were married in the Parsonage of Front St. in Graham North Carolina on June 10, 1946.  

Fern and Bill settled in Springfield, Pennsylvania in 1952 where they lived for 54 years.  In 2006 they moved to  Masonic Village in Elizabethtown PA.  They were active members of Covenant Methodist Church in Springfield.  

Fern greatly enjoyed dining and socializing with her many friends at the Masonic Village  She stayed up to date on political and social current events, which she liked to discuss with family and friends.  

Fern was an avid athlete  who played on both her high school basketball and bowling teams.  She continued here quest for athletic excellence on the tennis court and bowling alley while living in Springfield.  She earned many trophies for her athletic accomplishments.  

Fern was and outstanding homemaker and mother.  Her home was warm, welcoming and spotless.  She, along with her husband, were the social  centers of neighborhood activities.  Family and neighborhood gatherings were routine occurrences in her back yard.  She was a great cook and always happy to prepare meals for family and friends.

Fern loved her family.  She loved frequent  visits to her in-laws in Springfield where they shared recipes for family meals and great cookies.  She also enjoyed twice yearly visits to her family in North Carolina and summertime  trips to North Wildwood beach with family and friends.    She loved to travel with her husband throughout the US, Canada and Europe.    

Fern will be dearly missed by all who knew her, including her Son Keith and his wife Eileen of Corning, NY., her grandchildren John Fisher of Columbus, OH., Joseph Fisher of State College, PA., and James Fisher of Bethlehem, PA., her sister-in-law Dorthy Isley, brother-in-law Rodney Fisher (deceased) nieces Kim Fisher and Sherry Fisher Schroeder, nephews Kevin and Jeff Isley   along with here many friends who loved and supported her for many years. 

Fern was pre-deceased by her sister Kaye Isley and brothers Jack Isley and Buck Isley and brother-in-law Rodney Fisher.

Contributions can be made in Fern’s name for the Children’s Home at Masonic Village Elizabethtown in care of Gift Planning, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown PA.  17022.

 A drive up viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 from 1:00-3:00 PM. Please enter the parking lot from North Market Street and follow the directions of staff.
