George F. Myers, 84, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 26, 2021, at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital. Born Thursday, August 13, 1936, in Mount Union, PA, he was the son of the late Charles Leroy Myers, Sr. and Rita (Woods) Myers. He was married to Lucinda D. (Brown) “Cindy” Myers for over 50 years. Cindy also died on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital.
A Veteran, George proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Longenecker’s Hatchery, Elizabethtown, for several years. George was a devoted husband, father and pappy to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved Penn State Football, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed going to church and reading his Bible. George was an amazing storyteller and those who had the pleasure of hearing his stories always walked away entertained.
He is survived by two children: Russell W. Myers, married to Kelli, of Harrisburg and Kimberly I. Atkins, married to Dan, of Elizabethtown. Also surviving are 2 brothers: Donald Myers, of Elizabethtown, PA; Bernard “Jay” Myers of Lake Stevens, WA and a sister, Barbara Mull, of Elizabethtown, PA. He leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Miranda and Leah Atkins and Jordan and Jarred Myers; 2 great-grandchildren: Aiden Orion and Theodore Matthew, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Charles Myers and John “Art” Myers and a sister, Janet Waters.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Newville Bible Church, 819 Turnpike Road, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 with Pastor Ed Eifert officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown with military honors. A viewing will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service on Thursday.
