Gerard W. Cantara, 83, of Palmyra, formerly of Elizabeth, NJ, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Saturday, November 12, 2022. He was born Sunday, September 3, 1939 to the late Charles and Mary (Ryan) Cantara. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joan T. (Stec) Cantara.
Gerard was a proud Army Veteran. He was a faithful member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time he enjoyed refereeing basketball games and coaching in New Jersey, Grammer School Basketball. He was also an avid New York Giants fan. Most importantly he was a loving husband; and a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son: Steven Cantara and his wife; grandchildren, Casey, Kerri, and Ryan Cantara; and siblings, Robert Cantara and Mari Jane Gutuckasa. He is predeceased by his siblings, John and William Cantara.
A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 11 AM at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 300 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078 with Father Anthony Dill officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 10 AM until the start of the service. Burial will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, at a later date.
