Obituary

Harold A. Hardy, Jr., 95, of Elizabethtown, died on Friday, September 8, 2023 at the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown. Born in Lowell, MA to the late Harold Hardy, Sr., and Helen (Tuttle) Hardy.

Harold grew up in Lowell, MA and graduating from Lowell High in 1945. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Lowell and was a Line Officer in the DeMolay Organization. Also, a member of Troop #4 and was Assistant Scoutmaster and Camp Ranger. Harold jointed the Navy serving on the USS DD 808 Dennis J. Buckley and Minesweeper USS Mervine. After two years he was mustered out at Long Beach, CA as Sonarman third- class.

As a graduate of Tilton School and Northeastern University he received letters in baseball and football at NU. In his insurance career, he worked for several major insurance companies as an underwriter special agent, field supervisor, office manager, and corporate officer. Harold traveled to posts in Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Harrisburg, PA, and Southern California. He retired in 1980 and moved to Marietta, PA and joined a Methodist Church and served as Worship and Lay Leader and various committees. He attended annual meetings of the Eastern PA Conference. Harold has dual membership at St. Paul and Sell Chapel Memorial at the Masonic Village. He joined the Ashara Masonic Lodge #398 and most recently #551. Harold served as Lodge Treasurer for six years and Trustee for four. He is a member of Shrine and participated with its string band as player and also president and booker for engagements.

Twenty-one years ago Harold and Eva came to the Masonic Village. At the Village, Harold held for four years as appointment as an open member on the Sub-Finance Committee for the Masonic Homes. He also worked as a volunteer with many clubs and management.

He celebrated 51 years of marriage to his deceased wife Eva. Surviving are nephews: Forest Myers and wife Becky, Rick Holt and wife Jody, Doug Holt and wife June, Gary Neubaum, William Holt and wife Sally; and all of their children and grandchildren; nieces, Cathy Holt, Gay Shultz and husband Michael, and Robert Kraft husband of Megan  (Myers) Kraft, deceased. A special thank you to Margaret S. Turn, caregiver and companion whom later in life has given companionship and joy.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the Sell Chapel at Masonic Village. Burial will follow at 1:30 PM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with full military honors.
