James Watto, 94, formerly of Marietta, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Masonic Village. Born September 17, 1926 in Nesquehoning, PA, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Zemba) Watto. He was married 63 years to Miriam (Kauffman) Watto who passed away in February 2015.
Jim was a long-time member of Maytown Church of God. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII and retired from Armstrong Flooring after 41 years. He was a member of Donegal Post 809 of the American Legion. Jim enjoyed bowling and was an avid gardener. He loved mowing and helping with projects at the church. He was church treasurer for many years. He often provided rides to services for the elderly members and always had candy in his pockets for the kids at church.
He is survived by two daughters: Beth Stauffer and husband David of Lititz, and Donna Rodgers and husband Ronald of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, a daughter Cristy A. Rybacki (survived by husband Steven of Salisbury, MD), and 12 brothers and sisters. Many of his nieces and nephews said he was their favorite uncle.
A viewing will be held on Monday, September 20th at Smedley-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 29 North Gay Street, Marietta, PA 17547 from 1:00-2:00 PM. A graveside service will follow in Maytown Union Cemetery. A memorial service will then take place at Maytown Church of God, 14 West Elizabeth Street, Maytown, PA 17550 at 3:00 PM with Scott Sweigart officiating. At the request of the family, please wear a mask while attending the viewing and memorial service.
