Janet I. Waser, of Lancaster, passed away Monday September 4, 2023. Born May 30, 1936, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Irene E. (Kauffman) Hess. Janet graduated from Hempfield High School in 1954 and married John F. Waser in May of 1957. They settled in Elizabethtown, where they raised their two children and where Janet went to work at Elizabethtown College. The work was fine but what she really enjoyed were her office friends and the camaraderie they shared. She spent over 25 years working with the data processing team and retired in 1997.
Janet and John then enjoyed traveling for many years and felt fortunate to visit many places including Canada, Europe, and China. They enjoyed cruising as well and toured the US in their motor home, wintering in Lakeland, Florida for several years. Janet enjoyed holiday cooking and baking, and her family looked forward to her special Christmastime crab soup and the endless tins of Christmas cookies. She also enjoyed playing the piano and cards, and spending time with her family. Janet is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, John F. Waser; children: Jeffrey L. Waser(Mickie) of Elizabethtown, and Julia Klammer (Kevin) of Tulsa, OK: grandchildren: Angela, Malory, Savannah, Kristopher, Eric, and Nathan; great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Ava, Claire, Michael, Rory, and Levi; and brother: Robert R. Hess of Landisville. She is preceded in death by her older brother G. Donald Hess. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and will be remembered for her caring spirit and kind soul. Graveside services will be private per family’s request. A celebration of Janet’s life will be held in the coming weeks. More information will be available when plans have been finalized by the family.
Janet’s family wishes to thank the nursing staff at the Mennonite Home for their excellent care and compassion, and for Hospice and Community Care for walking alongside the family this past month. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either one of these organizations.
