LCDR (Ret) Charles Clifford Butler, II, US Navy, 89, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Kadima at Campbelltown. He was born Monday, August 3, 1931 in Lebanon to the late Charles C. and Catherine (Yake) Butler.
He is survived by a brother, Bill Butler and wife Judy; a sister, Isabelle (Butler) Plumb and husband David; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a two brothers Robert Butler and Larry Butler.
Charles was a retired Lieutenant Commander who served in the Korean War. He graduated from Palmyra High School in 1948 and continued his education at the University of Villanova class of 1953 with a business degree. He volunteered for many years at the Hope Lodge, Hershey and also the Hershey Med Center, University Physicians Center. He went on to give out scholarship funds to the Palmyra High School graduates and enjoyed attending local sporting events.
Charles enjoyed spending time with family. He was an avid sports fan specifically watching Villanova, Clemson, Cleveland Browns, and the Cleveland Indians. He was a man of faith and attended at both St. Joan of Arc, Hershey, and Holy Spirit, Palmyra. He also would attend religious retreat at Mount St. Mary’s, Maryland and also Malvern, PA.
In his spare time he enjoyed reading books and magazines at the local library. He had a passion for art and attending art exhibits. He had a smile that was contagious and he was best described as generous and humble. He was always willing to lend a helping hand either to friends, family or any organization that needed help. He also enjoyed going for walks and eating at local restaurants.
A funeral service will be held Friday, January 29th at 12:30 PM at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078. Burial with full military honors will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Family and friends are invited for viewing from 11:30 until time of the service at the funeral home.
