Lois V. McDevitt Obituary

Lois McDevitt, of the Masonic Village of Elizabethtown PA, went home to be with the Lord on October 1, 2022. She was born in Philadelphia in 1927 and passed peacefully in the Mount Joy Hospice. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, she lived her daily life for the Lord Jesus Christ and took great joy in serving Him through her ministry of music.

Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Albert J. McDevitt, who died in 2007, her beloved first husband of 7 years, James E. Dillon, Jr., who died in 1957, and her parents Irvin and Carrie Spaeth. She is survived by her children James E. Dillon III (spouse Robin) of Coopersburg PA, Elizabeth Rosander (spouse David) of Bradenton FL, and Albert J. McDevitt (spouse Jeanne) of Lakeville, PA. Another son, David S. McDevitt, died in 1982. She is also survived by her grandchildren Heather Dillon Jackson, Bryan Rosander, Theodor Rosander, Jennifer McDevitt Reed, Andrew McDevitt, Kate McDevitt, David McDevitt, and Melissa McDevitt Campbell, by 8 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Lois graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1944 and attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. She also lived in Merced CA, Abington PA, Ocean City New Jersey, Southampton PA, and New Port Richey FL before moving to the Masonic Village in 2000.

Lois was passionate about music, having begun playing the piano as a child. She was very active in the musical ministry of the Masonic Village, singing and playing piano and organ for the Sell Chapel Choir, the Men’s Chorus, the Women’s Chorus, and the Gentlemen, and she was Grand Accompanist for Amaranth. She was also a member of the Village hand bell choir. She also played the piano and organ for various church groups, Bethanna Children’s Home and Charity in Southampton.  At the Masonic Village she was also a member of Amaranth, Eastern Star and the Franklin Society.

In addition to her music, Lois loved to travel, crisscrossing the United States and Canada in motorhomes and by trains, and taking numerous cruises with Al.  She also loved to read, especially British mysteries, which she also enjoyed watching on public television. While living in Southampton she learned china painting and made many beautiful pieces which her family have enjoyed. She was also an accomplished photographer.
