Mary Abbott Obituary

Mary Helen Abbott, age 95, of Elizabethtown, PA, previously of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Coopersburg Pa, went to be with her Heavenly Savior on April 30, 2022. She was predeceased by her husband, James "Jim" C. Abbott on April 19, 2022. She was born in Bloomsburg, PA on June 3, 1926, to the late Helen C. (Gensemer) Smith Kennedy and Theodore P. Smith. She married her husband James "Jim" C. Abbott on August 21, 1948, and they had six children together. Mary Helen graduated from Cedar Crest College and earned her master's degree in Elementary Education from Kutztown University. She taught 1st grade at Southern Lehigh S.D. for over 24 years. Mary Helen served as a Sunday school teacher and diener at the Coopersburg Moravian church for many years. In 1988, Mary Helen and Jim, retired to Myrtle Beach, SC. Mary Helen served at Trinity Presbyterian Church and was a president and board member of the Myrtle Beach chapter of Women's Aglow. She worked the media ministry at the Beach Church for over 20 years, until she moved to the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA in 2015. Most importantly Mary Helen loved, and she was loved and will be missed by her family. She was predeceased by her siblings, Theodore P. Smith II, Thomas A. Smith, John Kennedy, Charles Kennedy; and by daughter, Gwyn E. Schwartz, and son, James S. Abbott. Left to remember her are children, Ann Weisel (George), Nancy Wescott (Floyd), Mark Abbott (Debra), Matthew Abbott (Paula), Susan (Miller) Abbott, grandchildren, Wendy Ranney, Jennifer Halverson, Melissa Hughes, Melissa Burgess, Megan Watson, Margaret Vanderford, Kimberly Bills, Joseph Abbott, and Mary Whitehead; as well as 18 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of life for both Mary Helen and James Abbott on August 21st, 2022 at Living Memorial Park in Coopersburg, PA. Burial will take place at the Masonic Village, Sell Chapel, Elizabethtown, PA.
