Nancy Barbara (Heisey) Gerber, 98, formerly of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Londonderry Village, Palmyra, PA. Born Saturday, August 5, 1922, in Palmyra, she was the daughter of the late Ralph B. and Sadie S. (Carper) Heisey. She was married to John A. Gerber for nearly 54 years until his death on March 23, 1998.
A former member of Palmyra Church of the Brethren, Nancy was a member of Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren. She was a soprano soloist in both choirs and taught Sunday School and Bible School. She also sang in various churches throughout the area. She was a Brownie Scout Leader and taught songs and dances to Brownies and Girl Scouts. In her earlier years, she was a member of the Elizabethtown Area Music Foundation Board. She was an avid reader and enjoyed music, walking, crocheting and sewing.
Nancy and her husband owned and operated the former Eberly Furniture Store, Elizabethtown, from 1970 to 1985.
She is survived by a niece, JulieAnn Keith; nephews: John Heisey, James, William, Thomas, John, Joel and Peter Musser, as well as Nancy’s extended family and caring friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy B. Armstrong; a sister, Mildred Musser and a brother, John Heisey.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, 777 South Mount Joy Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. Interment will take place in the church’s Peace Memorial Garden. Arrangements have been entrusted with the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, 717-367-1543.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nancy’s memory to the Bucher Music Fund at Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren and mailed to the address listed above.
