Gregory Vaughn Sterkenberg

Gregory Vaughn Sterkenberg, 23, of Palmyra, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 17, 2015.  Greg was born Friday, June 5, 1992 in Harrisburg to John R. and Susan M. Sterkenberg.

Greg graduated from Palmyra Area High School in the class of 2011. He was a sophomore attending the Art Institute of Pennsylvania in York.

First and foremost Greg was a son, a brother, and a loving friend to many. Greg made his impact in many ways during his stay, but ultimately will be remembered for the creative, artistic mind that he possessed. His art was his life and permeated his soul. He was a hard worker and would never be seen without his backpack filled with an art studio worth of supplies. He was also a talented photographer who captured the beauty of his world in such an indescribable and unique way; his hazel eye behind the lens will never be replicated.

Greg loved spreading smiles with his quirky, loving personality. His laughter was contagious and has been called Barney Rubble-esque. His heart was enormous and he gave every piece of it to help anyone, friend or stranger alike. He loved music with his entire being, especially dubstep and alternative rock. He listened to it as loud as he could, whenever he could. He felt at home with his headphones on or while standing stage-side at music festivals.

An outstanding athlete at Palmyra High, Greg ran cross country, track and field, and was a member of the swim team.

Greg’s mission in life was to spread love and light to a chaotic world.

He will be lovingly missed by his parents, John and Susan, of Palmyra; two brothers, Zack A. Sterkenberg, of Lancaster, Drew A. Sterkenberg, of Palmyra; Maternal Grandparents, John and Velma Jaminet, of Mechanicsburg; Maternal Grandmother, Barbara Stonesifer, of Hershey; four uncles, John Jaminet, II and wife Maria, of Wisconsin, Barry Jaminet and wife Jen, of North Carolina, Samuel Sterkenberg and wife Deb, of Lancaster, Joseph Sterkenburg and wife Jackie, of Delaware; several cousins as well as Greg’s extended family and caring friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA  17078.  Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.   Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-9:00 PM and also from 10 AM until the time of the service on Wednesday.
